Waiting on Wednesday #47

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spines. This is a cool way to spotlight a upcoming release that you're anxious about, as well as checking out what other book lovers are anticipating as well. So, check out my WoW for this week:

ParallelParallel
by Lauren Miller
Release Date: May 14th 2013
Publication: HarperTeen
Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Abby Barnes had a plan. The Plan. She'd go to Northwestern, major in journalism, and land a job at a national newspaper, all before she turned twenty-two. But one tiny choice—taking a drama class her senior year of high school—changed all that. Now, on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Abby is stuck on a Hollywood movie set, miles from where she wants to be, wishing she could rewind her life. The next morning, she's in a dorm room at Yale, with no memory of how she got there. Overnight, it's as if her past has been rewritten.

With the help of Caitlin, her science-savvy BFF, Abby discovers that this new reality is the result of a cosmic collision of parallel universes that has Abby living an alternate version of her life. And not only that: Abby's life changes every time her parallel self makes a new choice. Meanwhile, her parallel is living out Abby's senior year of high school and falling for someone Abby's never even met.

As she struggles to navigate her ever-shifting existence, forced to live out the consequences of a path she didn't choose, Abby must let go of the Plan and learn to focus on the present, without losing sight of who she is, the boy who might just be her soul mate, and the destiny that's finally within reach.

The Moon and MoreThe Moon and More
by Sarah Dessen
Release Date: June 4th 2013
Publisher: Viking Juvenile
Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Luke is the perfect boyfriend: handsome, kind, fun. He and Emaline have been together all through high school in Colby, the beach town where they both grew up. But now, in the summer before college, Emaline wonders if perfect is good enough.

Enter Theo, a super-ambitious outsider, a New Yorker assisting on a documentary film about a reclusive local artist. Theo's sophisticated, exciting, and, best of all, he thinks Emaline is much too smart for Colby.

Emaline's mostly-absentee father, too, thinks Emaline should have a bigger life, and he's convinced that an Ivy League education is the only route to realizing her potential. Emaline is attracted to the bright future that Theo and her father promise. But she also clings to the deep roots of her loving mother, stepfather, and sisters. Can she ignore the pull of the happily familiar world of Colby?

Emaline wants the moon and more, but how can she balance where she comes from with where she's going?

Sarah Dessen's devoted fans will welcome this story of romance, yearning, and, finally, empowerment. It could only happen in the summer.

Why I'm Waiting

Both books sound really interesting in their own way. I'd love to read Parallel because I haven't read anything like that in a while so it should be a breath of fresh air from the norm. Also, the Moon and More seems like a great contemporary read with some intrigue.

What are you waiting on?

  24. Hi, Shane!

Oh, these are two GREAT picks!! The interesting thing is that one of these books is rooted in a science fiction world, while the other is firmly rooted in reality. Nice combo! I guess we need a little of each -- fantasy as well as reality. (Although I lean more toward fantasy. Lol.)

Anyway, both of these sound really good! And so my TBR is getting fatter and fatter.....

Thanks for sharing, and Happy Reading!! :)

  29. Wow, Parallel sounds really good. I've seen this one around, but I'll admit I've never stopped to read the synopsis before, LOL! Maybe the cover just didn't grab me. But it looks like something I'd like. Great suggestions, thanks for stopping by Books, Bones & Buffy!
