Feature and Follow #25

Gain New Blog Followers

This is a weekly blog hop hosted by the wonderful Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Today's question is:

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

Easy. No, I don't mind, as long as its interesting and has its own appeal. I've read a few similar to Twilight (not a fan of that series but I give others a try). If it's too much (overwhelmingly) like its "inspiration" then I'd be turned off a bit but probably finish the book cause I like to push to the end. One of the nicest re-telling I've read so far would have to be Enchanted by Alethea Kontis.

Enchanted

How about you?

  1. I thought Enchanted was really cute, too. I don't mind retellings, as long as they can stand on their own as a story, even if you didn't know the original version.

  2. I don't think I've read that many Twilight retellings, mainly because I didn't love Twilight as much as everyone else seemed to do.

Hope you have a great day, Shane (:

  4. Awesome answer!

I get very annoyed when people want to compare a book to Twilight. Twilight itself wasn't all that original. I had already read quite a few YA books with vampires and the whole forbidden love thing going on. Although, I will say Twilight did have its own aspect that was truly its own, such as sparkly vampires.

But yeah, my good friend knows enough by now to avoid talking of Twilight.

Enchanted! I still have to read this one! Bought it months ago at its release but have yet to read it! I love fairy tale re-tellings as well!!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

  6. I've heard awesome things about Enchanted and really want to read it. I'm all for retellings if they add something new and unique to the original story.

  12. I agree - I usually don't mind as long as there is some originality - something different, even if the books are a similar concept.

  13. Good point, if a book appeals in it's own way, it can still be very enjoyable. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm following back :D

  14. Enchanted was a little too ADD for me, but I agree that it's an example of appropriately using other stories in an original way.

  17. Same here! As long as there's some originality I'm good. I haven't read Enchanted, I'll have to pick that one up soon. I love retellings!

  18. Good answer, I'm the same way if it's too similar to the original story...that's where I lose interest. Thanks for sharing & for visiting earlier :)
