Review: Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

7_Weeks_of_Jane_Austen1337682518

As apart of the 7 weeks of Jane Austen hosted by Alex @ The Blethering Bookworm, I'll be doing a review on Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. This is one of my favorite novels by the world renowned author.

Jane Austen (Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, Lady Susan)

Pride and Prejudice

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Elizabeth Bennet is the perfect Austen heroine: intelligent, generous, sensible, incapable of jealousy or any other major sin. That makes her sound like an insufferable goody-goody, but the truth is she's a completely hip character, who if provoked is not above skewering her antagonist with a piece of her exceptionally sharp -- but always polite -- 18th century wit. The point is, you spend the whole book absolutely fixated on the critical question: will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy hook up?
~My Review~
This is one of my favorite Jane Austen novels. "Pride & Prejudice" tells a lot about families in the 1800s and the kind of lifestyle practiced in that period. Back in those days people were extremely concerned with class and marrying the considerably wealthy.

Austen developed the protagonist, Elizabeth, as a young woman who was free spirited and didn't conform with the societal ways. Lizzy was neither concerned with marrying a suitable man nor was she fazed by wealth.  She was simply living, enjoying her life and family. Nevertheless, I loved the intensity and the back and forth between her and Mr. Darcy leading up to their irresistible attraction for each other.

The story-line is very much entertaining, captivating, and remarkably well written. This is one of those novels that once you start reading you just can't put the book down, and once its over, you want to start reading it again. I can attest to that because I can't even count the number of times I've read this story. It never gets tiring to dive into the romance between the main characters, while falling in love with the graphic description and exciting time frame.
