Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spines. This is a cool way to spotlight a upcoming release that you're anxious about, as well as checking out what other book lovers are anticipating as well. So, check out my WoW for this week:
Release date: August 5th 2014
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Synopsis via Goodreads:
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn’t imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She’s not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, making him impossible to forget.
In one short summer, her entire life changes, and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly . . . bad things are happening. It’s a head rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turn from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil’s bargains, she isn’t sure who—or what—she can trust. Not even her own mind . . .
Release date: September 30th 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Synopsis via Goodreads:
The clock chimes midnight, a curse breaks, and a girl meets a prince . . . but what follows is not all sweetness and sugarplums.
New York City, 1899. Clara Stole, the mayor's ever-proper daughter, leads a double life. Since her mother's murder, she has secretly trained in self-defense with the mysterious Drosselmeyer.
Then, on Christmas Eve, disaster strikes.
Her home is destroyed, her father abducted--by beings distinctly nothuman. To find him, Clara journeys to the war-ravaged land of Cane. Her only companion is the dethroned prince Nicholas, bound by a wicked curse. If they're to survive, Clara has no choice but to trust him, but his haunted eyes burn with secrets--and a need she can't define. With the dangerous, seductive faery queen Anise hunting them, Clara soon realizes she won't leave Cane unscathed--if she leaves at all.
Inspired by The Nutcracker, Winterspell is a dark, timeless fairy tale about love and war, longing and loneliness, and a girl who must learn to live without fear.

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by My WoW
I seen Mortal Danger on another WoW today. Like I was telling her, this book reminds me of that 80's movie, Heathers, with Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. Where they go after the popular, mean girls in the school, then the boy starts to get carried away wanting to kill everyone. It's been forever since I've seen it. But That why I would love to read it, see what it's all about!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Winterspell before, but DAMN! I'm so glad that I have now. Thanks to you! I'm super intrigued by the short summary and adding it to my TBR list! WOW, Hurry up Sept!!

ReplyDeleteThese two are entirely new to me, and they both sound SO GREAT!! I had trouble with being bullied in school, and would have loved to have found some magical tools to make sure my tormentors got what they deserved! On the other hand, such things can indeed backfire. Besides, you can then turn into someone just like your bullies..... I'm very curious to see how things play out in this novel. Besides, Aguirre has a reputation as a solid writer!
As for the second book, I want it so badly!!! "The Nutcracker" is one of my favorite fairy tales, and I ADORE fairy tale retellings!! This particular one sounds very original, too, in spite of being based on another author's work.
AWESOME PICKS, GIRL!! Thanks for sharing, and thanks for commenting on my WOW, too!! : )
I haven't heard of either or them but both sound really interesting. Especially Mortal Danger :D Great picks for this week!
