Synopsis via Goodreads:
His obsession.
His obsession.
Her fall.
In this dark kissing book, high school senior Zephyr Doyle is swept off her feet—and into an intense relationship—by the new boy in school.
Zephyr is focused. Focused on leading her team to the field hockey state championship and leaving her small town for her dream school, Boston College.
But love has a way of changing things.
Enter the new boy in school: the hockey team’s starting goaltender, Alec. He’s cute, charming, and most important, Alec doesn’t judge Zephyr. He understands her fears and insecurities—he even shares them. Soon, their relationship becomes something bigger than Zephyr, something she can’t control, something she doesn’t want to control.
Zephyr swears it must be love. Because love is powerful, and overwhelming, and…terrifying?
But love shouldn’t make you abandon your dreams, or push your friends away. And love shouldn’t make you feel guilty—or worse, ashamed.
So when Zephyr finally begins to see Alec for who he really is, she knows it’s time to take back control of her life.
If she waits any longer, it may be too late.

can you explain what is dark kissing? kind of odd of a term
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about that too.
DeleteI'm wondering if it's in reference to the unhealthy relationship. I mean, to me it seems this is about abuse.
DeleteThank you thank you for bringing this book to my attention! It sounds so exciting! I can't wait to read how Zephyr 'takes back control of her life'! Such a thrilling read - I'll be sure to highlight it in my Thursday post ;) Happy Reading!

That cover is unique and the synopsis sounds interesting. I haven't heard of this one before. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteUnique indeed! Thanks for visiting, Brit :)
DeleteI can't believe I haven't heard of this one before! Although dark kissing, haha, not exactly sure what that's supposed to refer to? ;) Regardless, I love the subtely of the synopsis, since we KNOW something goes wrong, and there are a couple of hints as to what it might be, but it's not completely obvious. That's the kind of story I want to read, something that isn't SUPER in your face, you know? Especially about such fragile topics.
ReplyDeleteLovely pick, Shane! <33

I agree. I mean, I assumed abuse is part of it from what I've read in the blurb. But not entirely sure if that really is the case or if something else is at play. Guess we just have to wait and find out :)
DeleteThanks for stopping by Aneeqah :)
I am SO excited for this book, and that cover! Props to Simon & Schuster for having such a bold design.

DeleteThanks for coming over!
Oo, this book sounds oddly intriguing! I'm very curious as to what "dark kissing" means. At first I thought it might be something like fantasy related, but then the end of synopsis made it seem like a contemporary with an abusive relationship. I'll have to add this one to my TBR list!
ReplyDeleteAriel @ Bookish Confessions
I thought so too. I'm guessing it's about abuse but we'll see.
DeleteThanks for coming over, Ariel :)
WOW! I've never heard of this book but it sounds intense. I really want to read this. I want to see how she navigates through a relationship she wants to believe is based on love and how she discovers it's not. It's a dark read, but certainly a good book
ReplyDeleteDark indeed. I like intense stories so hopefully this book lives up to that great blurb.
DeleteOh, this sounds so intense! And I see just how dark it is..... It's wonderful when you fall in love, but when that love becomes the center of your existence, and you start losing yourself.....it can be frightening. I think we've all been there, because we women tend to throw everything in the back seat when we become obsessed with a guy.....
ReplyDeleteThis novel is a cautionary tale, and thus, a must-read for all of us romantic females. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
Also, thanks for stopping by and commenting on my WOW!! : )
I agree. I can attest for myself that I do this as well :)
DeleteThank you for coming over!
This one is definitely a book that I want to check out! Great pick!
