Loved it!

I haven't read the first book in this series but I like that each release features a different couple, and it's great that from this novella I had the chance to experience all that Fate went through leading up to the full length 'Falling for Fate'.

From start, it was obvious getting married wasn't something Fate should be doing, especially to a guy like Trevor. He was a moron. The king of all morons. And I can't believe her friend betrayed her like that. I knew Melissa wasn't for Fate going through with the wedding, but I had no idea there was something else going on. Anyway, happy that Fate found out just what those two were really like, even though it took that shocker for her to realize she shouldn't marry Trevor. I wish she had drawn conclusion from way before, when he kept pressuring her for sex. Like hello, warning bells!

I wouldn't have done what she did afterwards on the beach, but in seeing things from her perspective and understanding her life, how she didn't want to be a certain kind of woman, I guess I could understand why she'd choose to do that. And Dean does seem like a good guy. Hope he makes me melt in the continuation of their story, because I'll definitely be reading Falling for Fate to find out what happens next between the two. I'm also looking forward to how Fate sorts out her life. Great intro to what seems like a great love story!

Review: Girl With Guitar by Caisey Quinn

18888918Release date: May 21st 2013
Self-Published
Purchase: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:
*This is a New Adult Romance and contains MA 17+ Content.

After Kylie’s dad dies in a freak accident, he leaves her with nothing other than her crazy stepmother, Darla, and the ability to play guitar. When Darla kicks Kylie out and she loses her job all in the same day, she hops a bus to Nashville determined to make her late father’s dreams come true.

Waitressing and saving her pennies to record a demo, her big break comes when she’s asked to join a tour going down the tubes with once platinum album-selling country music superstar Trace Corbin. But touring with Trace is hardly a dream come true since he’s pretty much drinking his career down the drain. If Kylie can’t pull Trace out of his rut, he’ll pull her and her dreams down with him.

It was an enjoyable story filled with wit, humor, and lots of drama. To say this was an emotional roller-coaster is an understatement. It's beyond that. Girl With Guitar has been on my TBR for what feels like ages and after glimpsing it a few days ago, I decided to purchase the book and give it a read. Glad I did.

My interest was kept from start to finish. Here we have this young girl who's had a rough ride and finally her dreams are coming true after one very coincidental performance.
Kylie is a likable, relatable character. She's strong, her talent is felt throughout the pages, and you can definitely see how much of an emotional person she is. Her journey to finally making music is one hell of battlefield between her and Trace. And one that you'll never get tired of.

I liked the tension between the main characters from start. It wasn't insta-love, but you can sense the attraction Kylie felt for this appealing country singer with troubles of his own. It was quite admirable, the way she'd stand up to him and try to get him to straighten himself out. Unlike some of the people around him, Kylie wasn't afraid to tell him like it is or get rid of the crap that's fueling his problem. She's a headstrong girl. I felt her character was perfect for someone like him.

Trace was quite a handful. At times rude, but then once you get to know him you start to see why he why he was self-sabotaging like that. Beyond the rude remarks and unnecessary trouble he got himself in, was a really nice guy who deserved some love and affection from a girl who was real and honest with him. Thankfully, Kylie was that girl and I'm glad not only he did, but that she realized how much they wanted to be together towards the end.

Overall, it was a great story with a sweet, convincing romance, captivating song lyrics that I could imagine myself singing, and really fast-paced and intriguing writing. The one thing that bugged me was how they kept misunderstanding each other and were too stubborn to just say how they feel, especially Kylie. I get it, that's the kind of person she was. But it felt like a particular issue was drawn out when it could have just wrapped a few pages sooner. Regardless, it was an enjoyable story and I do recommend if you're a country music fan, as well as a lover of coming of age books about characters chasing after their dreams and having them come true in spite of the bumps along the road.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #2:
If you see approaching storms or any of the danger signs, be prepared to take shelter immediately.

Severe Storm Warning Tip #3:
They may strike quickly, with little or no warning.

Situated just outside of Oklahoma City, Calumet County is divided into two drastically different communities: Hope’s Grove and Summit Bluffs. One is the small backward town where dirt roads lead the way to field parties and railroad tracks. And the other, a sprawling suburb where paved drives lead to the landscaped lawns of the wealthy and over privileged.

For five teenagers smack in the middle of Tornado Alley, summer is heating up fast. The winds of change are blurring the invisible line that divides the rich and the rural.

One has a secret.
One has a crush.
One has been lying.
One will get caught.
And one might not make it out alive.

They’re from two different worlds…but one summer is about to change everything.

Due to a previous book that didn't reel me in as much with that technique, I was a little apprehensive about starting Storm Warning because it involves four different perspectives. Luckily, I had too much of an urge to read the story because I ended up liking the various emotions.

Storm Warning is the first young adult novel I've read in weeks, and as much as there are new adult elements, there's definitely that youthful sense of kids trying to figure stuff out and wanting adults to understand their feelings more.

So let's talk characters...

Cameron and Hayden are my favorites. I have to put that out there first. Both really pulled me in and I found I enjoyed their scenes more. Kyle was an interesting character as well, but Ellie Jane just didn't rub me the right way. I couldn't warm up to her personality. It irked me at times because of how she would react to certain things. I get she's frustrated and tired about a certain guy's continuous efforts to hide his feelings for her, but even when she got over it and was starting fresh with the other, she still displayed annoying characteristics that made me want to throw mud at her. That aside, her having to deal with a lot of changes justified her attitude at times. But it was hard for me to not feel annoyed, even knowing what was going on around her. As for Kyle, the overprotective big brother, I liked him. Being placed instantly in a tough position due to the unfortunate yet shitty move pulled by his father, Kyle was forced to make a sacrifice. In the end, he chose to do what he thought was best for his sister and mother. However, that decision only made it worse for Cami to develop courage.

Cooper, as much as he had a lot going on as well, I just didn't care for his presence. I sympathized with his sadness and all that, but let's just say if he doesn't reappear I won't miss him.

Back to Cameron and Hayden. Both were similar in a lot of ways due to the world where they came from and all the crap they had to endure. Both weren't looking for anything good to happen to them until it did and they changed for the better. I particularly liked how Hayden became fearless in expressing how he truly felt, while Cameron still held on to that fear a bit. In the end, I was thrilled when she finally made that epitome. Sadly, it came at a bad time.

There was so much taking place with these characters and the ending leaves readers on quite a dreadful cliff hanger. Now I have to wait until next Spring to find out what isn't coming back. Though, I already have a good idea.

Overall, Storm Warning is a great book with appealing writing and interesting characters. While I may have my favorites, I did like each of the four and what they brought to the story. I liked the setting and general world building. Everything was well-developed and perfectly plotted. I liked it. And you will too, especially if I'm eager to read the second book.

This is the first I'm reading anything from these two authors but Storm Warning has certainly made me want to pick up their individual works. Tremendous effort indeed.
