Waiting on Wednesday #60: The Naturals & Sorrow's Knot

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spines. This is a cool way to spotlight a upcoming release that you're anxious about, as well as checking out what other book lovers are anticipating as well. So, check out my WoW for this week:

The NaturalsThe Naturals
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Release date: November 5th 2013
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Synopsis via Goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they've begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn't realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides— especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own.

Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

Sorrow's KnotSorrow's Knot
by Erin Bow
Release date: October 29th 2013
Publisher: Arthur A. Levine Books

Synopsis via Goodreads:

From the acclaimed author of PLAIN KATE, a new novel about what lurks in the shadows, and how to put it to rest...

In the world of SORROW'S KNOT, the dead do not rest easy. Every patch of shadow might be home to something hungry, something deadly. Most of the people of this world live on the sunlit, treeless prairies. But a few carve out an uneasy living in the forest towns, keeping the dead at bay with wards made from magically knotted cords. The women who tie these knots are called binders. And Otter's mother, Willow, is one of the greatest binders her people have ever known.

But Willow does not wish for her daughter to lead the lonely, heavy life of a binder, so she chooses another as her apprentice. Otter is devastated by this choice, and what's more, it leaves her untrained when the village falls under attack. In a moment of desperation, Otter casts her first ward, and the results are disastrous. But now Otter may be her people's only hope against the shadows that threaten them. Will the challenge be too great for her? Or will she find a way to put the dead to rest once and for all?

Why I'm Waiting

First of all, Naturals has something intriguing in the book's description. The fact that there are these young people with abilities and the FBI is involved just makes me even more curious about the story. I love books like that. As for Sorrow's Knot, well of course the cover is enchanting but the story sounds ghostly, paranormal and just as interesting as the previous. I hope to get my hands on both very soon :)

What are you waiting for?

  7. The Naturals sounds right up my alley! I've heard great things about Jennifer Lynn Barnes although I haven't had a chance to read any of her books. I love books about people with keen senses or extra abilities that use their powers to solve crimes. There is an adult mysteries series called Abbey Cooper Psychic Eye that is kind of similar that I love. Thanks for stopping by!
