Today, I have the pleasure of interviewing the incredibly talented Kristen Painter of the exciting House of Comarré series. Continue below to learn more about the author, as well as a chance to win the first three books in the series.
When did you realize you wanted to become a writer?
I've written stories since I've been able to hold a pencil and (mostly) spell the words necessary to get my ideas onto paper. I don't know if I ever consciously thought "I want to be a writer." I just always felt like I was.
Why urban fantasy?
It found me when that's what Blood Rights turned into. I didn't set out to write any particular genre, that's just where the book ended up.
What inspired the House of Comarré series?
The idea of Chrysabelle came to me in college and the rest of the series grew up around her.
I've been to a lot of cool places. Everywhere from Australia to Africa.
There's a lot of details in the series as well, including different families, bloodlines, etc. How long did it take to get this story together, and how'd you come up with such interesting names?
I just turned the 5th and final book in, so about four years altogether. Once I get an idea, my mind just goes crazy with twists and turns. There were even things that didn't make it into the books.
Can you share a little about the upcoming 4th and 5th installments, what can readers expect from Out for Blood and Last Blood?
Out For Blood will take the characters to some dark places, but Last Blood should be a very satisfying conclusion. I hope! I've worked really hard to make Last Blood a great end to the series.
Have you ever considered doing a spin-off and if so, which character's story would you like to bring to the forefront?
I would love to do a spin off and actually have one that I've thought about. It would feature the fae, Augustine, who is Mortalis's half-brother and makes a few appearances in the series, and be set in New Orleans where he lives.
Outside of writing, what do you do for fun?
I go to the gym. I know that probably doesn't sound like fun to a lot of people, but doing something physical is really important to my mental well being. I also hang out with family and friends, catch up on movies, cook, make jewelry, read and travel. Life needs more than one kind of experience.
Thanks for taking the time. Please leave a message for your supporters.
