Persistence of Vision (Interchron #1)
by Liesel K. Hill
Paperback, 386 pages
Release date: January 29, 2013
Publisher: Tate Publishing
Purchase: Amazon
Synopsis via Goodreads:
In a world where collective hives are enslaving the population and individuals have been hunted to the verge of extinction, Maggie Harper, and independent 21st Century woman, must find the strength to preserve the freedom of the future, but without the aid of her memories.
After experiencing a traumatic time loss, Maggie is plagued by a barrage of images she can't explain. When she's attacked by a creep with a spider's web tattoo, she is saved by Marcus, a man she's never met, but somehow remembers. He tells her that both he and her creepy attacker are from a future in which individuals are being murdered by collectives, and Marcus is part of the rebellion. The collectives have acquired time travel and they plan to enslave the human race throughout all of history. The flashes Maggie has been seeing are echoes of lost memories, and the information buried deep within them is instrumental in defeating the collective hives.
In order to preserve the individuality of mankind, Maggie must try to re-discover stolen memories, re-kindle friendships she has no recollection of, and wade through her feelings for the mysterious Marcus, all while dodging the tattooed assassins the collectives keep sending her way.
If Maggie can't fill the holes in her memory and find the answers to stop the collectives, the world both in her time and in all ages past and future will be doomed to enslavement in the grey, mediocre collectives. As the danger swirls around her and the collectives close in, Maggie realizes she must make a choice: stand out or fade away...
*New Adult futuristic dystopian fantasy.
Guest Post: Maggie Harper, on losing her memory among other things
Hi Everyone! My name is Maggie Harper and I’m so glad to be
visiting Itching for Books!
I’m here to spread the word about the fallibility of
memories. It’s a very real problem today—or soon will be—but it’s not something
people talk about enough. In fact, many people aren’t even aware of the
problem.
Let me explain. I had a traumatic experience some time back.
It’s taken a while, but I’m ready to talk about it, now, and I think you could
all learn something from it.
About a year ago, my brother and I were vacationing together
in Vegas. We stopped at a little bar off the strip for a quick drink before
dinner. The next thing we knew, we were waking up in a stranger’s hotel room
with no memory of what had happened to us! We lost twelve hours of our lives.
But that wasn’t the worst thing! You’d think it would be,
wouldn’t you? Just before we blacked out, I saw a strange man with peculiar
eyes. They were amber, flecked with color. He seemed upset and grabbed my arm.
He creeped me out a little bit, but that was all. I got away from him and
hurried on my way.
Here’s the thing, though. What I thought I remembered wasn’t
what actually happened. I didn’t just lose twelve hours. I lost more than a
year. And the amber-eyed man I thought I saw? I didn’t actually meet him until
after I blacked out in the bar. For some reason, I just remember it backwards.
Memories are complex things. They’re intensely personal,
like rivers of identity that seep into the pores of our souls. And sometimes,
our worst memories are the most important ones we have.
Don’t ever trust your memories. They may deceive you. Or
they may set you free. I just want to spread the news that, in the very near
future, even a person’s memories may not be trustworthy. For my whole story,
see Persistence of Vision, Book 1 of
Interchron.
Happy memory-making, everyone. Never take it for granted.
Liesel Hill is a fiction author that writes across three genres: scifi/fantasy, crime drama, and historical fiction. She especially loves dystopia and high fantasy, but I explores all kinds of things that fall within the realm of fantasy.
