Guest Post: Brothers of Rock by Karolyn James

Author of the New Adult Musical series Brothers of Rock, Karolyn James, has stopped by to give readers a look into the story from behind the words. Check it out below:

The original idea for Brothers of Rock was to take a band and take them off stage and say, “Here. Go live.” I wanted a band that had already seen all the success they could see… a multi-album deal, millions of albums sold, tours, concerts, fans, cars, houses, riches… the true rockstar dream come to life.

But each guy in Chasing Cross is a different person. It’s not just the instrument they play or the music they write or what they bring to the band or the shows. They are all different people. They have pasts, presents, and futures. Of course, all of this interconnects because of the band. For example, in All Access (Chasing Cross #1), Rick (the drummer) makes a careless decision that compromises the bands immediate future.

I titled it ‘Brothers of Rock’ because that’s what these guys are. They are brothers on stage and through music. But the interesting part is that as the books go on, they become more than just brothers on stage and through music. They walk through life together, helping each other, standing up for each other and to each other.

To lead off the series, I had to use Johnnie, the leader singer. He’s the most headstrong guy in the group and is pegged as the leader of the band even though he doesn’t consider himself that at all. It puts him in a tough spot when he has a major career decision to make… all the while meeting a beautiful woman who honestly has no idea who he is. The idea intrigues him and thus begins a romantic relationship.

All the books in the Chasing Cross series can be read as stand alone novels but they are best enjoyed in order. There are storylines that connect throughout the series that readers are really enjoying. The five Chasing Cross books are coming to end in October but the Brothers of Rock series continues from there with another band! And for that, I have the readers to thank. They’ve been reading the books, reviewing the books, and messaging me for more, more, more!

So before I go, here’s a chance to ‘meet’ the band…

Johnnie: lead singer / guitarist
Davey: guitarist
Danny: guitarist
Chris: bassist
Rick: drummer
