Victoria H. Smith has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She puts it to good use writing romance all day. She resides in the Midwest with her Macbook on her lap and a cornfield to her right. She often draws inspiration for her stories from her own life experiences, and the twenty-something characters she writes give her an earful about it.

Review: The Space Between by Victoria H. Smith

Deliciously enervating! I don't know how else to describe the story.

The Space Between was interesting from start to finish. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, the world building and the realistic elements used. I liked that it's written in the POV of both the female and male, so as the reader we get to experience their individual emotions.

Lacey won me over the moment she began narrating. I admire her characteristics and the kind of woman she is. The fact that she's willing to sacrifice her own happiness for the sake of her mother is rather tremendous and I instantly connected with the bond the two shared. Lacey is such a nice girl, but not exactly pure and innocent, with her interesting reveals on certain body parts. But I didn't mind it at all. She's not perfect, and I relate with her more because of her realness and the fact that she's had to be so tough for so long.

Drake is a nice guy as well. Of course, with his family status anyone on the outside, including Lacey can and will make assumptions without getting to know him first, but all in all, Drake is a really good guy. What I like about him is how he refuses to let money define who he is, or even let it affect his decisions, unlike his parents.

The attraction between the two is instant when Drake glimpses and hears Lacey for the first time, and that passion is felt throughout the pages. You really get the sense that they like each other and their feelings continue to grow and strengthen to the last word. I think Victoria did a good job in identifying the societal issues they have to face, whether it being Drake's wealthy family and how they look at Lacey's background, to the fact that their relationship will be tested due to their diversity. And I'm happy that the most important thing remains clear to them, that love has no color.

Once again, the story is really enjoyable. The characters have substance and are fairly established. My only but minor issue is with Drake's little sister, Adele. She's fifteen, yet whenever she pops in the story I feel like its a twelve year old instead. But aside from that, I laughed, I emphasized, I fumed. The Space Between is a quick contemporary read with a sweet and tantalizing romance you will never forget. I truly cannot wait to read the continuation to this wonderful love story. Because despite all their relationship goes through, I know Drake and Lacey will make it through.
